Peterson Making Strong Push For the Braves 2nd Base Job

The Braves came into spring training expecting Alberto Callaspo to fill the keystone role this season as a stopgap until top prospect Jose Peraza was ready to get his career started. For both of them it has been a disappointing spring. Peraza, already, been reassigned to Minor League camp and Callaspo, going just 3 for 26 this spring, is definitely not impressing the team or the coaching staff. Jace Peterson, however, has vaulted up the depth chart and, as of right now, is slated to be the starting second basemen down in the Peach State. Peterson came into spring training looking to make a statement after being acquired this offseason in the Justin Upton deal. Peterson was the 3rd ranked prospect in the Padres system, as last season, in Triple A El Paso, he hit .306. He is very versatile, being able to play multiple infield positions.

Jace Peterson has shown why he was so highly rated. Coming into tonight, he is 9 for 27, which is good for a .346 average with 5 walks. He has great athleticism, looking great defensively as well. He is also having the opportunity playing next to one of the best defensive shortstops in the league, being paired with Andrelton Simmons. This could be a deadly double play combination, one that could challenge for being one of the strongest in the NL. He has made a great first impression on the coaches and the front office. His age is a plus as well, as he is just 24. If this is any indication of the type of player he will be, I am excited to see what he can do for the Braves for many years to come.
