Pirates Spring Training Report: March 8

The Pirates played the Blue Jays at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium in what would turn out to be yet another low scoring game for the Pirates. The Pirates would win 1-0 to improve their Spring Training record to 3-2 (with 1 tie). Here’s some things that we can take away from Sunday’s game:

  • The Pirates pitching continues to look impressive. Casey Sadler got the start and pitched 3 perfect innings throwing only 17 pitches, which were all strikes. The last 6 innings were split among 6 other pitchers.
  • The Buccos committed no errors in Sunday’s game, which is no easy task early in the Spring. How well the Pirates play in the field could be a big factor for whether or not they win the NL Central this season.
  • Brent Morel continues to look comfortable at the plate going 1-2 with the only RBI of the game for either side. Morel also drew a walk.

Other notables: Alen Hanson (1-1), Sebastian Valle (1-1), Jose Tabata (1-3), Gregory Polanco (1-3), Gift Ngoepe (1-3)

The Pirates will head back to McKechnie Field to play the Minnesota Twins on Monday at 1:05 ET. Gerrit Cole will start on the mound for the Pirates, and Ricky Nolasco will get the nod for the Twins.
