The Pirates played the Minnesota Twins in front of over 6,000 fans at McKechnie Field on Monday. This game would end in a 1-1 tie after 10 innings of play. Here are some things that we can take away from Monday’s exhibition:

  • Andrew McCutchen got his first hit of Spring Training. It’s always nice to see your best player get that first hit even if it is only Spring Training.
  • Neil Walker is swinging the bat well. He continued his impressive start to Spring Training by going 1-1 with the Pirate’s only RBI of the game.
  • Gerrit Cole didn’t have his best stuff today, but there are still some positives that we can take out of his first start of the year. Although he gave up 3 hits including a home run, and had 2 Walks, Cole was able to pitch 3 innings only giving up 1 run.
  • The Pirates relievers continue to impress. 5 Pirates relievers combined for 7 scoreless innings after Cole left the game. The Pirates pitching staff has given up only 2 runs in the last 3 games.

Other notables: Starling Marte (1-3), Elias Diaz (1-2), Arquimedes Caminero (1 IP 2 SO)

The Pirates will face the Tampa Bay Rays tomorrow at 1:05 ET.
