Dragic, Harkless, Martin: Rumours and Speculation Around the League

Rumors have circulated that Orlando Magic General Manager Rob Hennigan is now willing to part ways with third-year small forward Maurice Harkless, who was initially acquired as part of the Dwight Howard trade. Harkless has seen his minutes reduced every season since his rookie campaign in Orlando, and has rarely featured under both Jacque Vaughn and James Borrego. Due to Harkless’ lack of playing time and inconsistent minutes, it is unlikely that the Magic would receive anything of substance in return for him – making the decision to put a young, talented small forward with potential on the trading block an intriguing and perhaps bewildering one. However, as noted by Basketball Insiders’ Steve Kyler, the Magic have promised minutes to Harkless, so he may yet have a future in Orlando.

Elsewhere in the league…

Goran Dragic is said to not ‘trust’ the Phoenix Suns front office anymore, per Paul Coro of azcentral.com. This marks a new low in the relationship between the Suns and Dragic, who feels ‘uncomfortable’ with his current role in Phoenix, playing with other ball-dominant players such as Eric Bledsoe, and free-agent signing Isaiah Thomas.

The Minnesota Timberwolves look set to buy-out shooting guard Kevin Martin – surprising executives across the league, per Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders. Martin, who is an effective scorer averaging 20.2 points per game (per ESPN.com), would then be free to join a contending team who need scoring – perhaps even Martin’s former team, the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Finally, it seems as though Larry Sanders and the Milwaukee Bucks are nearing a buy-out, per Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders. It appears as though Sanders will not play for another NBA team this season, although if he chose too, there could be several suitors, particularly among those teams looking for a rim protector.
