Pregame Read: Cousins, Kings in ATL Desperately Looking for Upset

For this ever consistent Atlanta Hawks squad, a Monday evening home match-up against a weak Sacramento Kings team seems like a cake walk. The Hawks, coming off an uncharacteristic loss to Philadelphia on Saturday, look to rebound and continue to show the league why the Finals are well within reach. Atlanta has won six of their last seven contests, including victories against Dallas, Houston, and Cleveland. On paper, this seems like an easy Atlanta victory, as the Hawks have been playing stellar defense as of late and the Kings have struggled with turnover issues all season. Boogie and the Kings would prefer otherwise.

Since George Karl has taken over in SacTown, the Kings record has been a (somehow) overachieving 3-6, but the team looks better than in the former half of the season. Ball control seems to be a staple with Karl, as the Kings clearly have made it apparent that handling the rock is a main focus, considering star DeMarcus Cousins leads the league in turnovers per game. The problems won’t go away instantly, but Sacramento will look to a cut down against a vicious Hawk defense. Speaking of Cousins, Boogie hasn’t been the game-high scorer since February 20th. Expect a big game from Cousins, assuming he gets the touches. The Al Horford match-up is no small task, but Boogie should be able to control the boards and will the team from falling pathetically behind early with his size and strength.

If the Hawks play their cards right, they should be able to coast to a victory against a Darren Collison-less Kings team that essentially is playing for pride. However, the Kings look to turn this “sure thing” into a trap game and take a statement win midst the team’s road trip. After two tough losses in Orlando and Miami, Cousins and the rest of Sacramento will look to throw everything but the kitchen sink at the Hawks in ATL.
