Possible Steelers Free Agent Targets

Steelers-take-the-field

NFL free agency is now in full swing. We know the Steelers are not normally active in free agency, but given the amount of holes the Steelers have this year could be a break from the norm. Here is a list of players the Steelers could be looking at in the next couple days.

Steven Jackson

The Steelers should try to sign Steven Jackson. We saw in our playoff loss to the Ravens how much we need a backup for Bell. Jackson could be a solid starter for the first 2-4 games when Bell is serving his suspension. Last year with Atlanta he started 15 games and had 190 carries, 707 yards, and 6 touchdowns. While those aren’t necessarily dominant numbers by any means, we aren’t looking for a dominant running back. We have that already with Bell. What the Steelers need is a back that can start the first few games, and then pick up first downs/touchdowns on short yardage plays.

At 6’3” 229 lbs. Jackson can do just that. He has also shown in his career that he has great hands and has tallied 460 catches in his 11 year career. Jackson would be a great pickup for the Steelers that would provide a high-quality backup running back, and also a veteran presence on a young Steelers’ offense.
