Steelers Release ‘Da Beard’

k

While no official announcement was made about Troy Polamalu’s future with the team on Monday afternoon, the Steelers parted ways with a different Steeler legend. After 13 great seasons with the team, the Steelers released Brett Keisel.

Steelers’ GM Kevin Colbert released a statement saying,

“We have informed Brett Keisel that we plan to release him today. We have had conversations with Brett over the past couple of weeks during which we communicated our intentions to him. Brett has played a major role in our success during his 13 years in Pittsburgh. We appreciate his efforts and we are grateful for what he helped us accomplish, including two Super Bowl Championships. We will always consider him an all-time Pittsburgh Steeler.”

The move comes as no shock to Steelers Nation. We knew Keisel was going to have a tough time recovering from his recent injuries. I believe the Brett Keisel’s time in the NFL is over. I would be shocked if he attempted a comeback with another team.

It’s hard to put into words what Keisel has meant to this organization for the past 13 years. He has been an anchor on our defensive line for many years and was a part of some of the best defenses in Steelers’ history. He will certainly be missed.

His biggest contribution to the city came off the field in his work with the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. He contributed both his time and his money to the children. I hope he continues his work with the hospital even after his playing days are over.

He was also accepted by the city when he first arrived. Keisel is the definition of a “Yinzer” and will forever be a part of Steelers Nation.

We will always fear ‘Da Beard’.

Thanks for the memories.
