Steelers Re-sign Arthur Moats

Arthur Moats made it very clear from the onset of the free agency period he wanted to remain a Steeler. On Monday afternoon he inked a new 3 year deal to remain a part of the organization.

According to the Steelers, “The financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.” But NBC Sports is reporting that the deal is worth roughly $7.5 million over 3 years.

This means the Steelers will have a starting left outside linebacker at the beginning of Training Camp. Moats certainly isn’t the long-term solution at linebacker, but he showed us in the playing time he got last season that he can be a starter. I still wouldn’t be surprised if the Steelers took an outside linebacker high in the draft or even signed one in free agency. This signing in no way takes away the possibility of James Harrison resigning with the organization.

This also means that free agent linebacker Jason Worilds is likely out the door. This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone considering the price he is asking and the fact the Steelers neglected to place the transitional tag on him. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports still expects the Philadelphia Eagles to be the landing spot for Worilds.

Overall I feel this is a good pickup for the Steelers. Pittsburgh couldn’t afford to let a proven outside linebacker walk in free agency. I wouldn’t be surprised if Moats puts up similar numbers to what Worilds did last season if he starts.

It’s good to have you back in the Black and Gold Moats!
