The best running back in the draft isn’t Melvin Gordon or Todd Gurley, that’s right, it’s Indiana’s Tevin Coleman. Coleman finished 2014 with the 2nd highest rushing yards total in the country and an average carry of 7.5 yards. In 2014, Tevin Coleman is bound to be a first or 2nd rounder along with Gordon and Gurley. But what makes Coleman stand out above the others? Coleman played most of the season with Indiana relying on their 3rd string quarterback Zander Diamont, so Coleman almost always saw an 8 man box, where the entire season both Gurley and Gordon had their starting quarterbacks, seeing 8 men boxes a lot less often than Coleman. Not to mention, Coleman, had running back mate Jordan Howard who was 14th in the country in rushing. Howard also had more attempts than Coleman, Coleman didn’t even receive 47% of the attempts on his own team this year, and although of all of these hardships, Coleman was still 2nd in the country in rushing with an average yard per carry of 7.5. Coleman has great size at 6’1 and 210 lbs which is a similar size to Adrian Peterson and although he didn’t run a 40 yard dash at the combine, is considered on of the faster backs in the draft. On draft day, 31 teams will regret not drafting this 2014 unanimous All-American.
